ABOUT MEL

Hi, I’m Melissa Jiménez — but friends call me Mel.

I’m a Queer Puerto Rican-American filmmaker and television writer based in Los Angeles. I’ve spent over a decade working on sets across film and TV, but my love for storytelling started long before that — sitting around campfires, taking friends on wild adventures to far-off places. Back then, it was a way to escape. Today, it’s a way to heal, connect, and challenge the way we view this world.

My passion lies in telling stories that live at the intersection of nature, humanity, and technology — often through the lens of magical realism. I aim to defy the rigid bounds of reality, stir the human heart, and inspire the soul. Whether it’s Sci-fi, Adventure, Comedy, or Drama, I’m drawn to narratives that explore identity, belonging, transformation, and personal growth.

I’m known for writing nuanced characters, weaving emotionally resonant arcs, and creating worlds that feel both nostalgic and original. You can find some of my recent work on Netflix’s spy-fi series In From the Cold, with development and collaboration credits on Showtime’s Shameless, TNT’s Animal Kingdom, and FX’s American Horror Story.

At the core of everything I create is a desire to move people — to open a door, light a fire, and plant a seed. Thanks for stopping by, feel free to take a look around.
